The Story of TJ Larkin Hurls

For more than a century, deep in the heart of Killimor, County Galway, a family workshop has been quietly shaping a piece of Irish sporting history — one hurley at a time.

At TJ Larkin Hurls, our story is not just about wood and craftsmanship — it’s about generations, pride, and the heartbeat of hurling itself. Founded over 150 years ago, this business carries a legacy passed down from father to son, rooted in the very community where hurling is more than a sport — it’s a way of life.

From humble beginnings in a small workshop at Derrysiskal, ash timber has always been at the centre of what we do. We season and store our timber on site, shaping and crafting each hurley by hand with care that comes from decades of knowledge. Over time the workshop has grown, but the heart of the craft remains the same: patience, precision, and pride in every piece we make.

Today, Tom Joe, Francis and Damien Larkin carry the torch, working every day alongside skilled craftsmen to produce thousands of hurleys each year — a testament to the demand for real, Irish-made quality. As the seasons change and new players take to the field, Larkin Hurls continues to equip them with gear built to perform at every level.

But our connection to the sport is about more than simply manufacturing. Over the years we’ve been a part of the wider hurling community — setting up stands at local events, showcasing our craft at agricultural and sporting shows, and meeting players and families who share our passion. Whether it’s a festive market night in Killimor or a rural show in Tullamore, we’ve enjoyed taking part and telling the story of traditional hurley making to new generations.

We’re proud of our past — but excited about what comes next. Each hurley that leaves our workshop carries with it decades of knowledge and a connection to the thousands of players who’ve swung a Larkin hurley before. From the first cut of ash wood to the final polish on the grip, every stick is a reflection of who we are: craftsmen, community members, and hurling lovers.

At TJ Larkin Hurls, the tradition continues — shaped by history, driven by passion, and trusted by generations.
